Agents of Death? What could Barthes mean? Let me see if I can make any sense of this obscure reference. For some time now I have been arguing that the photograph scratches the surface of the infinity of existence, a timeless moment always already gone leaving only a trace behind. The infinity of the existential moment is closely related to the timeless infinities that bookend temporal lived experience. The infinity of the existential moment is, in a sense, a thread connecting the infinities exterior to temporality. The infinity post lived experience is referred to as death, the timeless abyss that defies understanding. But what of the infinity prior to the lived experience, is that too ineffable? And what of the infinity of the existential moment that is always already gone, is that too beyond all explanation, all definition!
