Technically this is an HDR image. It is made from three bracketed exposures that are then combined into a single image. The technique allows one to expose for shadows, mid-tones and highlights providing detail at each level in the final image. In addition, I chose to select a wide open aperature and control exposure with shutter speed rather than the other way round. This allowed me to focus on the flower while letting the background green go blurry.
