The sun has just retired behind the foothills near Loveland, Colorado. The light is warm and the shadows are long. The Devil’s Backbone rises up from the hills, an imposing rock structure created by the wind and the rain. Surrounding the formation are hiking trails for those interested in exploring the natural beauty of this outcrop of rock in the Rocky Mountain foothills. This image was made using a 70-300 zoom lens and a Canon 30D from around a mile away. I used a tripod and locked the camera mirror to minimize camera shake. The wind was howling around me this early Spring evening and I was bitterly cold.
