The photograph captures an image in an unimaginably short, yet fixed, time span. This image, for example, was shot at 1/6400th of a second, less time than it takes to blink one’s eye but still this short time frame is but a poor copy of that which it purports to capture…the frozen moment in time. The photograph compresses four dimensions of existence into only two thereby creating a new object to be experienced in four dimensions. The photograph is a distant cousin of the experience itself, one so removed that it would not necessarily be recognized on the street in passing.
